Love Your National Parks
National Parks England, alongside Defra, has launched a 'Love Your National Parks' celebration. The initiative welcomes everyone to celebrate all that England's 10 National Parks have to offer, and aims to boost the economic value of the Parks from tourism and other economic activity.
England's National Parks are known for being superb landscapes, rich in heritage and wildlife, but they are also valuable generators of wealth and economic activity. In these difficult economic times the National Parks are seeking to enhance the contribution they can make based on their very special qualities. We're encouraging everyone to explore the wonders of the National Parks. Not only will you have a good time, but the money you spend will be helping the local communities who live within and sustain these beautiful areas.
We know that:
- 90% of people in England say National Parks are important to them.
- 96% of people in England say they want every child to experience a National Park first hand
- A third of all spending on rural tourism in England is within National Parks and their neighbouring towns and villages
- This expenditure is estimated to support some 68,000 full time equivalent jobs
More information on how the English National Parks already contribute to national prosperity is set out in a report on Valuing National Parks.
