England's National Parks are home to some of the nation's most important archaeological sites and historic buildings. They are places where the history of land and people can be traced from the deepest past to the present day. The communities in National Parks have a rich cultural heritage that encompasses traditional skills and practices, local celebrations, folklore and language.
Together the National Park Authorities are signatories to a Joint Statement on the Historic Environment in National Parks. The agencies with responsibility for heritage and the historic environment in England, Wales and Scotland have also signed up to this statement. It guides joint work on conservation and interpretation of the historic environment.
